You can unsubscribe at any time.Thank you for subscribingWe have more newslettersShow meSee ourprivacy noticeA prolific Coventry shoplifter has been jailed after being caught by an undercover operation.It was launched to catch Christopher Hannifin, aged 41 of Deedmore Road, Coventry in the act.Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) set up the operation after concerns were raised around the amount of shoplifting in Bedworth.Plain clothed and uniformed officers caught Hannifin red handed and arrested him in Mill Street, Bedworth on Monday (January 25).He appeared at Warwickshire Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (January 26) where he pleaded guilty to thefts from five shops in Bedworth over the last couple of weeks and assaulting a shop worker at one of the shops, in Leicester Road.As a result Hannifin was jailed for five months.Sergeant Elliott Butler from Nuneaton and Bedworth SNT said: “This operation was launched in direct response to concerns raised by local businesses and members of the public. We set out to identify the suspect causing the most harm which turned out to be Hannifin.”Uniformed officers from the SNT caught him in the act and arrested him.”Officers and PCSOs worked together with local shopkeepers are part of this operation.
