The format launched on Twitter (via its live streaming service Periscope) late last month, and has already been adopted by brands including Airbnb and Toyota. Meanwhile, Facebook kicked off its live 360 video efforts earlier in December with a Mars emulation from National Geographic Utah based Mars Desert Research Station.

Archive oblique aerial imagery offers the potential to reconstruct the former geometry of valley glaciers and other landscape surfaces. Whilst the use of Structure from Motion (SfM) photogrammetry with multiview stereopsis (MVS) to process small format imagery is now well established in the geosciences, the potential of the technique for extracting topographic data from archive oblique aerial imagery is unclear. Here, SfM MVS is used to reconstruct the former topography of two high Arctic glaciers (Midtre and Austre Lovnbreen, Svalbard, Norway) using three archive oblique aerial images obtained by the Norwegian Polar Institute in 1936.
After Vice President Kamala Harris received her second dose of the COVID 19 vaccine in a televised event at the National Institutes of Health in January, Rep. Joyce Beatty (D Ohio) phone lit up with calls from constituents who were “newly curious” about getting vaccinated themselves, she told The New York Times. As Beatty explained, watching a Black woman receive the vaccine “gave people hope and gave people education.” Black Americans are nearly three times more likely to die from the coronavirus, the Times notes, but they are far less likely to be inoculated, in large part because of a lack of access, but also, some experts have pointed out, because of longstanding wariness about government driven health programs.
