He then went on to work in the Container Base in Gartsherrie and, latterly, with Castle Cement in Coatbridge until he retired.Following his retirement he had a variety of jobs and worked for Mosley Buses in Glenmavis, as a porter in Monklands Hospital and finally as a litter picker for Tesco in Faraday retail park at the ripe old age of 79.The beautiful game has been his passion since he was a boy and when he hung up his boots, John continued to keep fit by swimming and walking and was an avid member of his local JJB gym in his later years.He enjoys a “good single malt” and is a “fantastic” singer who enjoys duets with his brother William.The couple are devoted to their family and have five children, Stephen, Alan, Catherine, Brian and Mark, and nine grandchildren.Cathy and John McCormack, on the banks of Loch LomondAlan told the Advertiser: “My dad has got the most amazing voice.
