This project responds to the significant number of traffic related accidents at High Point Road and Velvet Leaf, including when a major section of Hope and A Future’s fencing, located on High Point Road, was damaged due to an accident at that location. This is a small project but where there were a significant number of traffic/accident related incidents and I would caution not to distract the significance of this project by overlaying it with the very complex process of future land acquisition and development, or public engagement planned for this corridor. There has been significant public input received from residents as well as from documented police reports that addressing this section of High Point and Velvet Leaf as a project was a priority.
Among the top issues I’ll be paying attention to this year is police reform. There are already plenty of bills out there, like one sponsored by Rep. Angela Romero, D Salt Lake City, that requires law enforcement agencies to keep track of their use of force in a federal database.
