Objective: AfricanCaribbean men in the United Kingdom in comparison with other ethnicities have the highest incidence rate of prostate cancer. Psychosocial aspects related to screening and presentation impact on men’s behavior, with previous studies indicating a range of barriers. This study explores one such barrier, the digital rectal examination (DRE), due to its prominence within UK AfricanCaribbean men’s accounts.Methods: AfricanCaribbean men with prostate cancer (n = 10) and without cancer (n = 10) were interviewed about their perceptions of DRE.

This study examines the effect of regulations on microfinance institutions in Nigeria and Zambia by focusing on the post regulation experiences and reflections of the microfinance institutions (MFIs) and their regulators. Based on in depth interviews with the Central Banks as regulators, MFI managers, practitioners and apex microfinance associations, the study finds that regulations in both countries have managed to professionalize the sector, but their effectiveness in augmenting the centrality of social goals to microfinance and MFIs remains doubtful. The poorly designed regulations are not only undermining social goals but also sending wrong signals to would be social investors, with implications for the social image of the industry.

But there was no attempt at a systematic “mapping”. In a very situationistic way, my observations are guided by coincidence (a bit like the idea of exploring one city using a map of another city). I did not plan this field trip properly and would normally have avoided going at the opening day of the London Olympics which happened to be the first Friday in Ramazan and also market day on Ridley Road.

Crime rates and gun violence are highly correlated with times of economic stress, so I also encourage you to support efforts that can increase opportunities for the disenfranchised and disadvantaged. There are ongoing efforts by members of the Black community and others to connect with what are thought to be the primarily younger perpetrators of these incidents who are generally not thought not to be members of traditional gangs.
