Below, we have listed what councils in the North East are saying on the matter.Sign up for the latest news straight to your inboxGateshead Gateshead Council said in a statement on Friday: “Gateshead has the highest altitudes in Tyne and Wear so these areas are often more badly affected by the weather than elsewhere on Tyneside.”Our gritting teams are working around the clock to keep main roads clear, but estate roads, back lanes and roads which aren’t routinely gritted have been difficult to access, particularly in towns and villages on higher ground and this has affected waste collections.”We have allocated additional gritting vehicles in these areas to help ensure waste collections are completed, but the recent snow has definitely slowed up our waste collection service and they have been having problems completing their rounds.”The main areas affected this week have been mostly hilly areas such as Blaydon, Winlaton, Ryton, Crawcrook and parts of Low Fell including the Easedale area.
