Ray’s statement “but here it is and we have it” was a prior quote about speed limiters that included strong support associated with the implementation. It attacked those who opposed it. I relied on my memory that it was one of Ray’s comments. While the sound performance is clear and quite loud, there isn’t any noise isolation and the outside noise easily seeps in given that the earbuds aren’t able to seal the ears well. You might be able to correct this in certain cases by amping up the volume, but it won’t be enough for noisy environments. Also, the sound leaks out when the volume is too high, which I don’t know about you, but it’s a major pet peeve of mine..

We investigated the localization of high frequency auditory signals in noise using an “approach to target” task in ferrets, how task performance should be interpreted in terms of perception, and how the measurements relate to other types of tasks. To establish their general ability to localize, animals were first trained to discriminate broadband noise from 12 locations. Subsequently we tested their ability to discriminate between band limited targets at 2 or 3 more widely spaced locations, in a continuous background noise.
