You can unsubscribe at any time.Thank you for subscribingWe have more newslettersShow meSee ourprivacy noticeA mindless driver clocked speeds of more than double the limit as he took police on a chase with a two year old child in the car.Uninsured Michael Lascelles made off from an officer who tried to pull him over then led him on a pursuit through numerous roads in Killingworth, North Tyneside.A court heard that the 24 year old was seen failing to stop at junctions, pulling a handbrake turn, mounting a pavement, overtaking other cars and hitting speeds of up to 70mph in 30mph zones.The road menace shocking driving and refusal to stop, prompted Northumbria Police to launch its helicopter, which followed him from above until he ditched his Audi A3 and tried to flee on foot.Lascelles managed to outrun officers for up to two minutes until he was finally caught and arrested.Now, Lascelles, of Lutterworth Place, in Longbenton, is facing spending time behind bars after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance at North Tyneside Magistrates Court.Prosecutor, Iain Jordan, said an officer had picked up an unmarked car from a workshop and was travelling back to a police station at around 5pm on June 5 last year when his attention was drawn to Lascelles in his Audi on Northumbrian Way.Read MoreBanned Bedlington driver crashed into wall and sped off from police on off road bike”The officer illuminated his lights and sounded his siren to pull the vehicle over,” Mr Jordan continued.”It failed to stop and made off. The vehicle turned on to Great Lime Road and failed to give way at the junction.”Mr Jordan said the officer continued to follow Lascelles as he drove at 60mph in 30mph zones before he increased his speed to 70mph.The prosecutor added: “The defendant was still overtaking other vehicles. He turned on to Deepdale Gardens, which is a dead end, before he attempted a handbrake turn and turned 180 degrees.”The officer could now clearly see the male in the driver seat and a female front seat passenger.”The vehicle travelled back along the road and mounted a pavement.”The court heard that Lascelles continued his pursuit along a number of residential roads before coming to a stop, ditching his passengers and attempting to flee on foot.But he was tracked by the police helicopter, who directed nearby officers, and he was finally located and arrested.Mr Jordan said: “The defendant at the time had no insurance.
