Some seniors have waited at vaccinations sites without an appointment, said they were still waiting confirmation of an appointment and ended up getting vaccinated. Others rushed to long term care facilities towards the end of the day when fewer people show up in the hopes of getting a vaccine. Some have received shots left over from canceled or missed appointments.

With so much to absorb each day, it a joy to settle into the sanctuary of Cicada Lodge in Katherine Nitmiluk National Park, to the south of Kakadu, for our final two nights. The small eco resort, fully owned by Nitmiluk Jawoyn people, blends into the rich bushland above the mammoth Nitmiluk Gorge. Its 18 cabins look unassuming but are fitted with modern bathrooms, floating kingsize beds and private balconies.
