With her husband, Michael, and now 12 year old daughter, Grace both history buffs Riordan began taking trips to Williamsburg.”I fell in love with the area,” Riordan said, explaining her family has visited all of the area’s tourist attractions, stayed in many hotels and patronized several pancake houses.When the national search firm tasked with replacing former Alliance president and CEO Dick Schreiber who took the role in 2005 contacted Riordan, she said she thought the job was “too good to be true.” She knew the position would bring together various work aspects she enjoys and would afford her the opportunity to live in a destination she and her family love.Riordan studied journalism and English literature at Boston College and marketing communications at Emerson College, she then spent 28 years working in advertising. She has focused on tourism advertising for the last 15 years, with organizations such as Colonial Williamsburg, Amtrak and Choice Hotels.Just before coming to live in Williamsburg, Riordan was working as president of the Falls Church based advertising agency SmithGifford, where she honed her skills working for a small business.
